How to Participate

  1. Register on the Virtual Butterfly Walk & 5K Home Page. If you registered prior to the event switching to a virtual format, you do not need to register again. Registration is free and fundraising is optional. However, we still ask that all participating individuals register online so that we can see how much of an impact we are having in our community!
  2. Order your Butterfly Walk & 5K t-shirt ($20/shirt) at Order on or before April 27 to receive your shirt by May 9, event kick-off day. Additionally, any participant who raises $50 on their fundraising page will automatically receive an event t-shirt and do not need to place a separate order.
  3. Choose a day between May 9 and May 17 to do your 1-mile inspirational walk or 5k. Make sure to take a look at the weather and be flexible if you have to change your day. We chose an entire week to ensure that everyone who wants to can participate!
  4. Choose your activity. In addition to walking or running, do a craft or activity to amplify your participation in the Virtual Butterfly Walk & 5K! You could:
    1. Draw with chalk along your route. Decorate the sidewalk with butterflies, pinwheels and write your team name or "CancerFree KIDS Butterfly Walk & 5k"!
    2. Decorate your front door or a tree in your yard. Traditionally, local community groups "Adopt-a-Tree" at the Butterfly Walk & 5K and decorate them with hand-made butterflies. Help us keep this tradition going by decorating your front door or a tree in your yard!
    3. Do a butterfly or pinwheel themed craft. Especially if you have young children, spend some time making butterflies and pinwheels to carry with you on your walk or run!
  5. Print your race bib and write in who you are honoring for the event. Pin this to your shirt during your walk or run to show everyone that you are participating in the Virtual Butterfly Walk & 5K!
  6. Get out and walk or run in your neighborhood! Make sure to take pictures and videos of you and your family as you run and walk to honor all those who have battled childhood cancer.
  7. Share your experience with CancerFree KIDS. Post your photos and videos on social media and tag us! @CancerFree KIDS or @Butterfly Walk for CancerFree KIDS on Faceboook, @cancerfreekids on Twitter, and @cancerfreekids on Instagram. You can also send your photos and videos to Cari Speed at and we will share them on our social media pages!
